Meet Simonne Carrasco Mendez (right) and husband, Chef Hugo from Mexico City (left). After living together in Mexico for three years, they decided during COVID to move to the USA to be closer to Simonne’s parents, Karen and Roberto Carrasco, who also help out at Epazote.

They opened Epazote to share Chef Hugo’s talent in crafting authentic, high-quality Mexican dishes right here in Fort Lauderdale. Noticing a lack of home-style Mexican restaurants in the neighborhood that specialize not just in authenticity but also quality and service, they decided to open Epazote and give it their all.

At Epazote, they don’t just want you to taste the food—they want you to feel like you’re in Mexico. From the vibrant decor, collected over the years, to the warm, family-like hospitality they provide, stepping into Epazote feels like crossing the border into a little piece of Mexico. They’re all about having fun, enjoying great food, and, most importantly, sharing their love and culture with their customers.

They truly appreciate every guest who walks through their doors. So come on in and experience a taste of Mexico for yourself—they can’t wait to serve you!

MORE ABOUT CHEF HUGO

Hugo is a skilled chef with over 13 years of culinary experience. He attended gastronomy university in Mexico City then moved to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico to pursue an internship and further enhance his career.

In Cabo, he started gaining experience in small restaurants. Soon after, he challenged himself to working in upscale restaurants and fine dining. Through networking with restaurant clients and tourists, he became a private chef for families and tourists in private villas.

Every family he attended was impressed with Hugo’s culinary skills and adored his personality and passion for cooking. After recieving an abundance of encouragement, Simonne and Hugo decided to open Epazote.
